The Château de Potelières, located in the eponymous village of the Gard, has a rich history dating back to the 14th century. Built in 1360 by Guillaume Bérard, Lord of Potelières, the château was initially a quadrangular structure flanked by four round towers. During the Wars of Religion in 1564, it suffered a fire that destroyed two of its northern towers.

In 1785, during the marriage of Alix-Marie-Charlotte de Bérard de Montalet to Louis-Victor de Suffren de Saint-Tropez, nephew of the Bailli de Suffren, the château was enlarged and modernized. These renovations included the addition of a floor, two side wings and balustrades, giving the château its current appearance. The park was also designed according to the Versailles model, with an orangery intended to shelter the orange trees during the winter.
