The Château de Potelières is an exceptional estate nestled in the heart of a green park, offering an intimate and refined setting between nature and heritage. The Château de Potelières, located in the eponymous village of the Gard, has a rich history dating back to the 14th century. Built in 1360 by Guillaume Bérard, Lord of Potelières, the castle was initially a medieval structure composed of a square main building flanked by four round towers. In 1564, during the Wars of Religion, it suffered a fire that destroyed two of its towers. In the 18th century, in 1785, on the occasion of the marriage of Alix-Marie-Charlotte de Bérard de Montalet with Louis-Victor de Suffren de Saint-Tropez, nephew of the famous bailiff of Suffren, the castle was enlarged and modernized. This work included the addition of a floor, two side wings and balustrades, giving the castle its current appearance.
The park was also landscaped, inspired by the gardens of Versailles, with in particular an orangery intended to house the 80 orange trees adorning the main courtyard. Remaining in the Bérard de Montalet family until the beginning of the 20th century, the château then had several owners and uses, serving in particular as an agricultural building in 1936 and as a guest house in the 1960s. Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since 1947, the Château de Potelières has been the subject of restorations since 2003, aimed at preserving its heritage while adapting it to contemporary standards.
